Technology: KGSA, Fundação Unitate, and Laika Ventures have joined forces to create an AI tool, available via WhatsApp, to answer questions from social institutions.
An unlikely trio has come together to bring technology to the management of Private Institutions of Social Solidarity (IPSS). KGSA law firm, a boutique dedicated to the social economy, has partnered with Fundação Unitate and the venture studio Laika Ventures to launch the first chatbot exclusively providing answers to questions these entities face daily, particularly regarding Social Security requirements for support establishments.
Based on Artificial Intelligence (AI), this tool is available for free via WhatsApp and responds according to information obtained from the book "Guide to Requirements in Social Support Establishments and IPSS," authored by lawyer Gonçalo Simões de Almeida, a partner at KGSA.
"We have examples of important advances in healthcare accelerated by AI, but we lacked an example in solidarity. Now these institutions can spend less time trying to figure out how many square meters their reception area needs to have and more time realizing dreams. And this sets an example of the path that is always the best for everything we create: solidarity,"
— stated the author of the work, Gonçalo Simões de Almeida, in a statement sent to Jornal Económico.
In this initial phase, the service provides answers for the following entities: Center for Activities and Training for Inclusion; Leisure Time Activities Center; Day Center; Care Center; Monitoring and Social Rehabilitation for People with Disabilities or Incapacity; Nursery; Residential Structure for the Elderly; Residential Home; Autonomous Residence for the Elderly; and Home Support Service.
In the opinion of the founder and CEO of Laika Ventures, "technological innovation is fundamental to solving practical challenges" and this project allows "creating a real impact in the social sector and thereby showing that AI doesn't mean changing what we do." "It means doing better and, in this case, with more humanity," said Ricardo Macedo. Tiago Abalroado, president of Fundação Unitate, believes that this chatbot allows IPSS to focus on what really matters, human beings.
Lawyer Claudia Raposo Correia, a partner at KGSA, argues that not only IPSS but all companies should be aware of the regulatory package derived from the Digital Strategy and the European Union's Cybersecurity Strategy, which has been in publication since 2022. "In addition to these, they should be aware of the Digital Services Act (DSA), the Digital Markets Act (DMA), and the Data Governance Act (DGA). A significant part is not prepared and, even more seriously, is almost completely unaware of the implications of this legislative framework," she warns.
